Skiing & sun terrace

Your ski vacation at the Schwarzhorn alpine hotel, directly on the slopes, with plenty of skiing fun right at your front door!

Another big plus of spending your winter vacation here and the reason many of guests come back time and time again is the compact and family-friendly size of the Jochgrimm ski resort. With four ski lifts (two tow lifts, two chairlifts) and seven kilometers of slopes, we are among the smaller, family-friendly ski areas. The compact format of this ski area gives you and your children greater safety, and makes the Jochgrimm a family ski resort par excellence. Here, you don’t have to worry about losing track of your children. On the contrary: While relaxing on our sun terrace with a cocktail in your hand and admiring the spectacular sunset, you can keep a constant eye on your children having fun on our beginners’ slope, with its conveyor belt and playground.

The Jochgrimm ski area has slopes with every level of difficulty – from flat pistes for beginners, medium-steep slopes, and the really challenging slopes for practiced skiers: the perfect instructional program for beginners. Yet the most-experts won’t feel left out either!

Lots of fun in the snow – not just on the slopes

No interest in skiing today? That’s not a problem – You’ll be amazed just how many other equally enticing winter activities there are in the vicinity of our mountain hotel. The romantic winter forests are threaded by hiking trails, and you can undertake wintertime strolls and snowshoe hikes over the snow-covered high-altitude plains. Children love sledding over our Dolomites high trails, and the children’s playground near our hotel in the Jochgrimm ski area is a paradise for kids, where they can romp and tumble in the snow, or ride sleds and bobsleds to their heart’s content. Rosy cheeks and frosty hands? Then hurry into the bar for some hot chocolate and tea!

Unforgettable winter days for adults and children!

Gliding over deep snow on high-altitude plains

The Jochgrimm in South Tyrol is both well-known and very popular among cross-country skiers. It is adjacent to the nearby Lavazè cross-country center (3.5 km away) in Trentino – a wonderfully beautiful location for cross-country skiing. Enjoy the fantastic view and admire the Dolomites while you glide over seemingly endless snow-covered courses. Our high-altitude courses (3, 5, and 8 km long) are extremely well-groomed and are open for use until well into spring. They connect with those of the Lavazè center to form an extensive network of courses.

Summit & passes

The Hotel Schwarzhorn is situated at the Jochgrimm, a high-altitude pass in the south of South Tyrol, near the border of the neighboring province of Trentino. Nestled between Fleims Valley / Val di Fiemme and the Eggen Valley, it belongs to the community of Aldein / Aldino. Our hotel was named after one of the two impressive mountains it is located between. The Weisshorn / Corno Bianco and the Schwarzhorn / Corno Nero slope gently upward on both sides of the hotel and form a unique backdrop for your alpine holiday with us in South Tyrol. In the wintertime, you’ll find excellent skiing conditions for a marvelous, family-friendly ski vacation in the Jochgrimm ski area in which our hotel is located. And in the summertime, you’ll find hiking trails suitable for children on which you can journey forth and explore this alpine paradise. Between the two mountains, you can enjoy the breathtaking panorama extending from the famed “Rose Garden” and Latemar, all the way over to the Adamello/Brenta Group in Trentino.

Grand views

The Dolomites: Shrouded in mystery, they’ve been the basis of many legends and myths. Officially declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009, the gigantic mountains and bizarre rock formations of pale Dolomite mineral have always held a special fascination for visitors, and provided plenty of material for weird tales. The Dolomites are crisscrossed by countless hiking trails – from easy paths routes for the whole family to challenging climbing stairs for advanced sportsmen. Numerous refreshment stops and cozy alpine refuges can be found along the way. And you can also take the famous Dolomites roads and explore the mountains by car or motorcycle.

Nature & tradition

Our alpine hotel at the Jochgrimm in the “Unterland” of South Tyrol is the ideal starting-point for hikes and alpine tours. Right in front of our hotel and from the nearby Lavazè Pass in the neighboring Italian province of Trentino (just 3 km from the Jochgrimm), you’ll find hiking trails leading in all directions of the compass which will take you through the most-varied landscapes. Among others, there’s the route to the Zanggenberg (2,488 meters above sea-level), with its wonderful panoramic view of the Weisshorn / Corno Bianco or the Schwarzhorn / Corno Nero. You can conquer impressive summits of the Eggen Valley mountains, in Trentino, or in the South Tyrolean Dolomites – or accompany your children in a group to explore the alpine meadows in our immediate vicinity and the Reggelberg (Auerleger Alm, Gurndin Alm, Isi Hut, Neuhütt Alm). The quaint and charming alpine huts offer their holiday guests a wealth of traditional South Tyrolean delicacies such as South Tyrolean bacon, the thin flat “Schüttelbrot,” dumplings, “Schlutzer” (spinach ravioli), and South Tyrolean wines.

High-altitude training for enhanced fitness

Hobby sportsmen, pros, and sports teams appreciate the ideal climatic training conditions prevailing at 2,000 meters above sea-level here at the Jochgrimm. They know that the conditions here help enhance physical fitness and boost performance. The lower oxygen content of the rarified alpine air and the lower air pressure improve the absorption of oxygen and stimulate the metabolism. Whether you are travelling alone or in a group – the Schwarzhorn alpine hotel in the Dolomites of South Tyrol offers you the appropriate lodgings.
